Academic Eligibility

2007-09-27

Now is the time to be thinking about your academic eligiblity for next season. Players must earn 5 credits the preceding school year (if less than 24 are required for graduation) or 6 credits the preceding year (if 24 or more are required for graduation) in order to be eligible to play next season. All credits must be earned by the first day of the beginning of the school year.

The thing to remember is that your eligibility expires at the end of the school year and has to be established again with each new season.  Because players who are academically eligible at the beginning of the school year remain academically eligible for the entire school year, it is sometimes hard to focus on the fact that this year's grades determine next year's eligibility.

Each season, during registration, proof of academic eligibility must be provided to the league registrar.  This documentation shall be in the form of either a letter from a responsible school official stating that the player is academically qualified to participate in a Winter sport or the preceding year's final Spring grade report, and Summer school grade report if needed.

Players who are ineligible first semester may gain eligibility second semester by passing 5 subjects (1/2 credit per subject) or 3 blocks (1 credit per block) or the equivalent.
