The Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) Ice Hockey Club will be holding travel team tryouts for the 2008-09 ACHA season during the weekend of August 28th-30th, 2008 at Cool Springs Ice Center in Franklin, TN (formerly known as Southern Ice Arena).
Tryout Session Schedule
Thursday, August 28th, 2008 – 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM – Registration
Thursday, August 28th, 2008 - 8:25 PM to 9:45 PM – On-Ice Session #1
Friday, August 29th, 2008 – 8:25 PM to 9:45 PM – On- Ice Session #2
Saturday, August 30th, 2008 – 10:10 AM to 11:30 AM – On-Ice Session #3
Tryouts will be divided into three 90-minute on-ice sessions with a mixture of drills, small-area games, and a full-ice scrimmage throughout. All players must wear full-equipment during all on-ice sessions including ACHA mandatory full-facial protection (HECC-approved cage, shield, or combo). Players will be assessed throughout the tryouts by the MTSU Hockey coaching staff and the team will be announced the evening of September 1st, 2008. There will be a $60 tax-deductable tryout fee for each student-athlete choosing to participate in tryouts, regardless of whether they participate in all three sessions or any portion thereof. Student-athletes are responsible for their own transportation needs to and from campus for tryouts; anyone needing assistance in this area should contact the coaching staff at mtsuice@yahoo.com immediately.
The Club will start preseason on-ice practices on Thursday, September 4th, 2008 and conduct the first-ever preseason inter-squad Blue-White scrimmage featuring selected members of our team alumni the evening of September 13th.
The 2008-09 season kicks off the 6th season of hockey at Middle Tennessee State University with a pair of games at the University of Alabama in Pelham, AL the weekend of September 19th-20th. Last season the team finished the season ranked 11th in the South Region and finished the season with a .500 record a rough start to the season to keep the Club’s tradition of never finishing a season with a sub-.500 winning percentage. This season will feature a 30-plus regular season game schedule, including 15 home games at Cool Springs Ice Center in Franklin, TN and a travel schedule including tournament appearances in Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, and Tampa, FL. The full schedule will be released on August 28th.
Student-athletes wishing to tryout must meet the following criteria:
1) All student-athletes must be enrolled as a full-time student at Middle Tennessee State University and be taking a minimum of nine (9) credit hours during the Fall 2008 semester. Graduate students must be currently enrolled in a minimum of six (6) credit hours.
2) All student-athletes must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 or higher at the start of the current semester. This requirement is waived for student-athletes in and immediately after their first-semester.
3) Undergraduate students must have enrolled in and successfully completed a minimum of nine (9) credit hours during the last semester. This requirement is waived for first-year students. Graduate students must have enrolled in and successfully completed a minimum of six (6) credit hours during the last semester.
